Why is it whenever you tell someone you want to homeschool, they look at you like you're an alien and ask, "are you sure you can do it?" instead of asking you why you want to. No, I'm not sure I can homeschool Abigail. I never homeschooled anyone before. But I can give you pages of reason why I want to homeschool Abigail - and any future children.
Here are 5 to start with:
1. Public schools cater to the average child. Most children aren't average.
2. In a public school setting, you must learn a before b and then c. Sometimes kids take longer learning b or c. Sometimes kids can go from a to c and not need b. Kids who can't follow a to b and then c are labeled remedial and need special attention.
3. Public schools are quick to label.
4. Different learning styles =/= learning disabilities.
5. I want Abby to learn about the world from the world. Not from a textbook.
Yes, I am aware this will not be easy. I think it will be well worth it. I am willing to admit it may not work out for us. If that's the case, she'll go into a school setting. Possibly Ashwood Waldorf School, the local Montessori school or Riley.
